“Hill is the real deal…steeped in gospel and soul, wrapped up in a punk rock DIY ethic” – Time Out LA

“A fiery performer, channeling some of rock & roll’s most heralded voices, revamping the squalls, screams and shouting-at-the-devil of rock’s pentecostal roots to a blazing new take that she can rightfully call her own, a soul that owes as much to AC/DC as Aretha.” — Okayplayer

“…Hill’s got too much passion to tidy things up, but she knows exactly what she’s doing.”
— SPIN

“If Tina Turner and Little Richard had a daughter and raised her with the help of uncles James Brown and Chuck Berry, she’d be like Nikki Hill.” –Minneapolis Star-Tribune

When you have a powerful Southern soul singer with a penchant for AC/DC, you know you’re going to get something badass…A talent not to be ignored. Hell, she packs so much power, she’ll never let you.” — PopMatters

A powerhouse singer and killer live performer, delivers her brand of soul-rock ‘n’ roll with expressive verve and, with the new songs, great variety and style.” — Lincoln Journal Star

Impassioned…fiery soul and R&B with some rock and roll swagger thrown in for good measure.” — AllMusic

“Dog Eat Dog is a classic–beautifully recorded and performed. One of the best
releases of the year.”
– Stephen A. King, Living Blues

“Billy Price and Kid Andersen…have created a celebration of classic American
soul. But it’s also an elevation, expanding and revitalizing a genre that
–as evidenced here–continues to inspire.”
– Terry Abrahamson, Blues Music Magazine

“I’ve heard some really good albums this year, in many genres and forms,
but this is classic soul, played with an awesome sense of the music and
way out there ahead of most. Bloody wonderful.”

Rockinitis, 34 year Reunion !! 3:30PM

One of the hottest bands in the Hudson Valley and greater NY region back in the day ! We have arranged a rather impromptu reunion just for Roots & Rhythm . NOT TO BE MISSED !!!!

Pete Kanaras, Chris Kaiser, Gary Molinaro, Jimmy Malthaner & Andy Follette

Rockinitis formed in 1988 and consisted of Jimmy Malthaner on bass, Gary Molinaro on harp/vocals, Pete Kanaras on guitar and Chris Kaiser on drums, who was later replaced by Brooklyn blues drumming legend Danny Sperduto (Dyke and the Blazers, John Lee Hooker, James Cotton, Paul Oscher, Brooklyn Blues Busters). Rockinitis was one of the many bands that sprang out of the Poughkeepsie club The Sidetracked’s incredible weekly blues-only open mike. From the start the band concentrated on material that mostly focused on hard core Chicago blues and the raw Louisianna sounds of Excello Records. In short, we specialized in real obscure material, played it with all our hearts, and people went nuts for it. At our peak the band was performing 220 to 240 shows a year within a four state radius and sharing the stage with BB King, Albert King, Eddie Shaw, Hubert Sumlin, The Paladins, Pinetop Perkins and Lazy Lester. Over time we became a “Staff Favorite Band” at the famous Manny’s Car Wash in NYC. There we opened for Jimmy Rogers, Anson Funderburgh, Little Charlie and the Nightcats (twice) and Valerie Wellington, before graduating to doing two night weekend runs on our own. The band ended in (iirc) 1992, and we had one reunion show in 2000. For this 2022 reunion we have all four original members. and as extra special guests we will have the undisputed king of the Hudson Valley blues scene, Mr Andy Follette, joining us, as well as Danny Sperduto’s son Mike, who will share drum duties with Chris.

The Swing Vipers http://swingvipers.com/ 1:30PM

Swing Vipers click here for bio

Swing Vipers infuses the timeless tunes of the early jazz era with a contemporary, gritty style of swing. As aficionados of great melody, we always honor the inherent beauty, art and story of each song while at the same time contributing our own rhythmic energy, updated interpretation and unconscious desire to dominate the world.

Whether you want to create the sophisticated atmosphere of a high-class speakeasy or the pulse and drive of a popular dance hall, Swing Vipers delivers the perfect musical mix of familiar melodies, surprising harmonies and hard-edged swing to make any event an extraordinary experience.

“Having come of age during the “swing revival”… I’ve seen and heard more than my fair share of bands. Swing Vipers ranks amongst the very best I’ve seen, bar none. Set after set, Swing Vipers maintained the vibe seamlessly and appropriately, always providing the exciting pulse of live music that is impossible to get with a DJ. They took requests with ease (they seem to know the entirety of the American Songbook), added the right ambiance, and provided the soundtrack for what many believe (not just the bride and groom), was one of the swankiest weddings ever!” – Writer/Producer John Bobey
